At age 19 Dan became unwell which led to a number of hospital visits, inactivity and a lack of confidence. Months down the track, he was diagnosed with Coeliac disease and began the slow road to recovery which meant a significant change in diet and a very slow return to exercise whilst battling fatigue.
The diagnosis was a blessing in disguise as it forced him to re-evaluate his approach to nutrition and exercise, which in previous years had comprised of unhealthy habits, namely lots of takeaway and processed foods.
Today Dan incorporates weights, cycling and functional training into his routine. The extent of his own personal health challenges alongside 12 years of personal training experience have provided him with a lifetime of knowledge and different perspectives on fitness.
At age 26, Ali sustained an unfortunate injury, when she ruptured the C 5/6 discs in her cervical spine and as a result underwent a rehabilitation regime. The experience was a turning point which then altered her approach and appreciation of human movement.
The experience has given her a greater understanding of the human body and an ability to relate to clients who have sustained and continue to experience chronic pain as part of their day to day living.
Having to live with and overcome chronic pain has empowered Ali to reinforce the importance of positive mindset and focusing on what you can do, rather than what you can’t.
So roughly 10 years ago I found myself embracing another new year with the same goals. Be fitter and healthier, I was so unhappy with the person i saw in the mirror.
My time was all about work, being a mum, a wife that I didn’t invest any time in me. So I decided to join the gym…three memberships later I finally committed to my health. But it wasn’t easy, many times I would drive into the gym carpark and being so overcome with anxiety I would drive home and feel disappointed in myself.
I eventually became a regular in group fitness and started to feel alive again. I then started doing weights and feeling strong.
Then I challenged myself with running. I couldn’t run 1 km without stopping multiple times. But I kept at it, I loved overcoming that negative voice in my head. I did my first 5k run, then 12k to a Half Marathon and I wondered how far I could go? So I signed up for Comrades Marathon a 90k run in South Africa. I trained for 7 months, 6 days a week whilst working full time. The run has to be completed in 12hrs …I finished in 11hr 57mins 48 sec. I finished just..but I finished.
That run changed my life. I knew from that day I wanted to study fitness and positive mindset and ultimately help as many people as I can to achieve a goal in their life they never thought possible. It’s all about the journey not the destination.
My passion for health and fitness started around 6 years ago when I was trying to navigate through my own fitness journey.
I realised for me health and fitness was about understanding there needs to be hard work, control, dedication, and balance. There is just no special pill to take to get fit. From here I wanted to take what I had learnt and pass it on to other people, so I enrolled to become a Personal Trainer.
I’ve been training in the gym for around 15 years and have many successes along with many failures, but I needed to have both to make the realisation I wanted to do this as a career.
Now I want to take what I have learnt and pass it onto others and help them achieve their health and fitness goals.
Health has different meanings for people .To me it’s living the best version of myself.
2 1/2 years ago I found myself heavily overweight ,extremely unfit ,constantly tied and unmotivated. I knew something had to change and I was the only person who could do it.
I decided to put myself first and start my fitness and health journey, one day, one week, one month at a time and successfully lost 45kilos and gained muscle strength, cardio endurance and completed a half marathon.
I have since studied nutrition and fitness and am a qualified sport and holistic nutritionist and fitness instructor.
I want to give as many people the knowledge I have gained and give them the gift of health and fitness to help them become the best versions of themselves.
For many years now I have assisted businesses in increasing their social media presence in the beauty, mum and child, and health and wellness industries.
Supporting businesses in reaching more people and increasing sales isn’t just about the money for me, it’s about assisting the community to resolve their problems or overcoming their hurdles in order to live a healthier life.
In recent years, more of us have suffered poor health and I have experienced it first hand too. So I understand the importance of staying physically fit and healthy.
As part of the CoreFit Team, I help them raise awareness of the important of health and fitness so we can help more people in the community to live a long vibrant life!
Molly has been part of the CoreFit family for 4 years and loves greeting people as they walk in the door. She loves pats, interaction, and gets easily excited.
Molly believes everyone should play with her and give her heaps of tummy rubs.
