Shout out to Sue & Damien who has shown amazing dedication to her training and has one of the most inspiring transformations!

Which program are you part of at CoreFit? We both do outdoor group at Lambton High School and Damien does PTs. Sometimes when I have nothing else to do or we are away we look up “Corefitlive” sessions and do them or make up our own based on exercises we’ve done at group.

Where did you come before joining CoreFit? I was brought up to be a book worm and creative sort, certainly don’t pay for the privilege of exercising. Fitness is an incidental thing you gain from the activities of walking and doing your chores so I walked everywhere and had a dog to make me walk some more. Damien was the opposite with an almost professional sporting career playing baseball, but his exercise regime had lapsed with work and parenting.

What inspired you to join CoreFit? Fiona Wallace employed Dan and Ali to do corporate fitness at her business where I worked. It was hard to start with coming from no exercise plan to being made to run up the hill but there was always plenty of encouragement and eventually my thought processes changed to “Oh, actually I can do this and I am feeling better for it.” Damien eventually came along because he was surprised and challenged by my increasing strength and endurance.

What training, if any, did you do before starting with CoreFit? I would generally go for a walk or ride my bike, but nothing too serious or constant.

Whats the #1 thing you’ve noticed in yourself since starting? Our mindset. We just can’t sit around for more than one day without doing something, even if it’s a mini tabata or a pyramid. I often do starjumps or burpees in the kitchen while waiting for the microwave or kettle. Who’d have thought that someone who could sit and read textbooks all day for fun would ever do that!!!

What do you enjoy most about training with CoreFit? Well, the exercise of course but really it’s the banter that comes with it if you’re late or wearing something different or have the lighter weight than you should or not enough reps. No need to be pushed by the trainer, the gang does that. Of course, there’s this great supportive community who have your back and the trainers go out of their way during lockdowns to make sure not only are there sessions to do but social events that you can join if you so feel inclined.

What’s your number #1 piece of advice for anyone looking to start their fitness journey?
As ADIDAS says ” JUST DO IT” just get started. Stop procrastinating and come and meet an awesome crowd who just love having fun together OR think of the emergency explanation in an aircraft regarding the use of the Oxygen masks,” Put yours on first so you can help others.” If you don’t look after yourself how will you look after your kids, your parents, your job?
